i am graphics / the Museum of the History of Kyiv / 2021

The Museum and Exhibition Center for Contemporary Art of the Museum of the History of Kyiv and Valentina Zasutska presented the exhibition “I Am Graphics”.

Japanese graphics are an inherent manifestation of minimalism. Art, as understood by Japanese culture, is the idea of using the insignificant to achieve perfection. Perfection is the beauty of simplicity.

Ukrainian artist Valentyna Zasutska, inspired by Japanese art, decided to try her hand at it. The pre-modern works of the Japanese artist and illustrator Katsushika Hokusai and the style that conveyed the character, mood and thoughts of the characters became the catalyst for the creation of this series.

Indeed, each part of the exhibition is united by a single story, which aims to convey the emotions and character of the characters and images through Japanese graphic arts. Hokusai’s book of paintings has become a handbook for Valentyna Zasutska.
